Desmond @ Barnes & Noble – August 13

Nine day notice. I’ll be book signing at Barnes & Noble in Fresno on Sunday, August 13 at noon.

Mainly for “Pappy Butler & His Zero Time Theory,” but I understand that copies of “The Doc” will be there too.

This is either a midway event of the 2017 summer book tour or – as said last week – an early start for the fall tour. I may talk a bit about the books, as they are setting up some chairs in the music/CD area. It is only …. NINE days away from the SIGNING at BARNES & NOBLE – FRESNO, on Blackstone and Nees, by the B of A and Elephant bar..

AGAIN – THAT IS SUNDAY – AUGUST 13 – AT NOON.

Talk & Signing – Library Venue

This is either a midway event of the 2017 summer book tour or an early start for the fall tour. It is only …. one week away from the BOOK TALK AND SIGNING at Woodward Park Branch of Fresno County Library.

While the flyer has only THE DOC book cover, [[ as the sequel to that book is due out this October ]], I will have the Pappy Butler & his Zero Time Theory book there as well. I will be talking about it all. So Mark your calendars for Wednesday July 26 – 7:00 PM.

Flyer from Fresno County library below …….

When a dying friend and fellow Civil War reenactor asks physician Hank Houston to find his daughter’s killer, the last thing he expected to uncover was a U.S. murder squad being run by Homeland Security, and this black ops unit is determined not to be exposed!
As Hank gets closer to the truth, he discovers just how far they will go to hide all their dirty little secrets.

March is here

March is here. The two Irish flags in the back are faded and have been flown the most in past years. The other one with the red cross is also an Irish flag. It has been mistaken for the Alabama and Florida state flags, though Florida has a state seal in its center. The Alabama flag, created in early 1890s, was described as “a crimson St. Andrews cross on white field.
In Ireland the coat of arms of the ancient Munster family of Fitzgerald was described as “a red saltire on argent field” or [translated] “a red cross on silver [white].” I suppose that was symbolic of the royal house at the time. The Geraldines were a succession of Earls of Desmond. The Coat of Arms of Desmond is not always displayed as Desmond, probably because it was a place before it was an Irish surname. But, the place was Munster and under the control of Geraldines and called the House of Desmond. The Coat of Arms was “a red saltire on argent ermine.” The black marks are the symbol of the ermine which had black tips to its tail in winter. There is an old ruin of a stone church on the road in Adare, west of the town center. On the stone façade are two Coats of Arms carved in relief. On the left is the saltire cross on a shield shape which is plain on the four fields between the bars. On the left is another shield with a saltire cross, but the four fields between the saltire bars has the ermine marks. Both Coats of Arms on the same building.

Author & Artist Day

tim-arthors-artists-day-feb-4-2017

This is a shot of the set up last Saturday. It was a huge success as twenty other authors and artists were setup there also. As well as always selling a few books to new readers, what was of interest and what many came to see, was the Confederate Flag painting of California lawsuit fame. It is on the back, wall over my head and left shoulder. It looks small here but is actually 4 feet x 4 feet in dimensions.

The next event – books and showing – will be at the CWRS sponsored Civil War Reenactment at Mooney Grove Park, Visalia – March 4 and 5 weekend.

Authors & Artists

Art - final cover by Jack - Pappy Butler & His Zero Time Theory

New this year at Madera County Library’s Author’s Day is the inclusion of works of art done by the various authors participating. I have to admit, right up front, that I had nothing to do with this event, now called “Authors and Artists Day.” It will be in two weeks on Saturday February 4 at Madera County Library main Branch, 121 North G Street, Madera, California.

So, this event kicks off the spring book tour for Pappy Butler & His Zero Time Theory. Plus The Confederate flag painting called The Attack which I painted in 2015 will be on display there too. Besides seeing this painting, which is not small at 48 x 48 inches, it will be interesting to meet other authors and seeing any other art being shown. To view The Attack painting up close, mark your calendars and come on down, Saturday February 4.

The Attack

The Confederate Flag painting and 2016 law suit made George Will’s opening item in his Washington Post column about the past year. The rest of his piece is great reading as well.

Central Coast Writer’s

author-cora-ramos-2016

Cora Ramos posted this yesterday, but to me it is huge, as I could not make it to the Central Coast conference. …. plus her site is beautiful.
I thought that was interesting about the business side, and needing both, but keeping separate … not mixing up.
This is short, so that you may hop over there now at:

E-book Audience Share

auto-chev-wire-diagram

Family -Tim Desmond at Captain Tony's

This didn’t turn out the way I expected. When I was searching for a comparison of an audience share of these type of users of Kindle formats versus Nook readers, naturally the term “reader” did not mean the noun of a person to the search engine in the machine. An interesting site popped up about comparing Kindle tablets to Nook tablets and Kobo. Not exactly what I was looking for but I learned about the virtual ink process or design called “E Ink Display” that allowed for daylight reading and how that works. The site has more product information and comparison at:

Kindle Voyage vs. Nook GlowLight vs. Kobo Aura H2O: Battle of the ebook readers

Also, along this vein ………

https://www.cnet.com/news/kindle-vs-nook-vs-ipad-which-e-book-reader-should-you-buy/
And: ………. https://pickmyreader.com/kindle-paperwhite-vs-nook-glowlight/

Getting back to the main question is there a trend in the users between these three types of e-book readers as an audience?
The answer I found is a year old, October 2015, but is comprehensive in its scope and detail. I could recreate the data and graphs, but why? I’ll just send you to the site which is ……. A must lesson for any author, and, well, any striving writing.
I feel fortunate that my publisher provides most of these platforms. That site is HUGE and at:

What do you think?

The Painter & The Commission

Art - Debby's Flower Painting 73 canvas cropped for poem illustration July 2016
The Painter & Commission
Flowers Painting – 1973 – 33 x 72 inches Acrylic on canvas. – Current owner: American Cancer Society Discovery thrift store, Fresno, California

Money green and gone
Sales also sail away
Years of oil on canvas fail
With mystique of public critique
Not real, bizarre, surreal

And hope and light escape
In shade of sycamore jade.

Artists always crazed
Stroke or slash is asked
Or splash of brush or knife
Slash canvas, slash canvas
Commission at last

Shown to her in jade shade
Aahhh nooo, no pay today

Bitch hums her critique so cool
“Won’t go with my mauve mood”
No ‘lectric, no neon, no power
No painted nude or lady laid
“Too white, too pink, too blue”

Yes hope and light escape
In shade of sycamore jade.
